Tax Filing Deadlines for 2025 (Tax Year 2024)

Missing a tax deadline is almost always the most expensive mistake on a return — penalties dwarf interest. Here's every date that matters for the 2024 tax year.

The big one: April 15, 2025

Federal individual returns (Form 1040) due. Also: Q1 2025 estimated payments due. IRA and HSA contributions for 2024 also due by this date. If you can't file, request an extension to October 15 — but pay your estimated balance by April 15.
